Safety

“Safety doesn’t happen by accident.”―unknown

At Bluegrass Landscaping and Maintenance, we hold safety above all else.  Whether the safety of our own employees or yours, we hold ourselves to the highest safety standards in the industry.  When you hire Bluegrass, you can have confidence in knowing that we take every precaution to keep our people and yours safe and secure.

When it comes to providing landscape services for a commercial property, safety should be looked at in different ways.

Design

A well-designed landscape should be clean and beautiful to anyone visiting it.  But there’s so much more at play in designing a landscape, and one of the most important is safety.

Paths

Walkways should get people to where they want to be in the shortest distance possible.  Why?  If people are in a hurry, they’ll walk over flower beds, turf, or close to and maybe even over, obstacles just to save themselves a little time.  This can increase their chances of falling or getting hurt.  Well-defined paths can direct pedestrians away from hazards and lead them where you want them to go.

Lighting

Exterior lighting is not just about showing your property in its best light (pun intended), it’s also necessary for creating a safe path for your employees or clients to get to where they need to be.

Maintenance

It’s important to not only choose plants and shrubs that fit the area but to also keep them trimmed and pruned so they don’t pose a tripping hazard.  Yearly spring cleaning is important because the winter months usually leave behind sticks and other debris that can be dangerous.  Trees and shrubs should be pruned and cleared of any low-lying branches.

Sprinkler Systems

Sprinkler systems must do their job in watering plants and turf, but your system should be designed in a way that minimizes water in parking lots, paths, etc. where pedestrians might slip.  Equally important is proper maintenance of your sprinkler system to make sure it isn’t watering too much or leaking.  Upgrading to a smart watering system will not only cut down on water usage, it may also cut down on overwatering which can cause slipping hazards.

Decrease in crime

A study by the University of Vermont looked at the relationship between trees and crime and found that with a 10% increase in tree canopy, there was a surprising 12% decrease in crime.   A strategically planned landscape design can give cameras clear views of high-traffic areas, and shrubs can be used to dissuade people from going near first-floor windows.

Keep people away from danger

Shrubs and greenery are great for hiding unsightly equipment like electrical boxes, telecom equipment, and gas tanks, but they also deter people from going near them where they could be hurt.

Practices

Hire the best

The best people will always yield the best results.  Our workers are hardworking and conscientious and put their safety and yours above all else.

Train them thoroughly

Our crews are fully trained and licensed on all of the equipment they operate, be they lawnmowers, edgers, or snow plows to ensure that correct procedures and protocols are being followed.  When using any chemical such as weed prevention or pest control products, all instructions for the usage of the product are strictly adhered to and all measurements are precise.  Our crews strictly follow all OSHA procedures and wear the proper personal protective equipment that is necessary.

As our crews perform their jobs, they will always clean up any debris left behind from their work, and be on the lookout for dangerous infestations or any other areas of safety concern.

Quality control

We monitor all employees to make sure that their work always meets our high safety standards and that all safety procedures are being followed to the letter.

By putting safety first, we’re putting you first.  With a safety-conscious landscape design and by working under the strictest guidelines, both your company and ours will experience fewer lost hours due to injuries or lawsuits due to slips and falls.

With safety, everybody wins!
