Prepare Your Property for Spring

Prepare Your Property for Spring

Winter is ending and that means spring will be here before you know it. Soon we will be spring cleaning our homes, cleaning out garages, and enjoying the beautiful weather. As spring approaches your commercial property will also need a tune up. Winter weather can leave your property in need of some repairs and cleaning. Here are a few things that should be done to get your commercial landscape ready for spring.

Remove Debris

Start by removing debris such as weeds,  old mulch, branches, twigs and other materials from flower beds and walkways. Clearing this debris will create a fresh slate for the rest of the spring cleaning tasks. Be sure to create a compost pile to reuse the materials and add nutrients back to your property.

Prune Trees and Plants

Right before spring begins is a great time to prune trees and plants. Heavy snow and ice may have damaged trees and plants which is why this task is important. Not only does pruning add to the aesthetic, but it also prepares your trees and plants for new growth.

Repair Damage

Your entire property should be inspected for damage to the walkway or any holes in the landscaping. Many times, these damages are caused from winter weather, snow removal, or deicing. Repairing these damages can be done by filling holes with extra soil or adding extra seeds and sod.

Apply Fertilizer and Mulch

Soil often needs extra love and nutrients after winter. Preparing for spring should include fertilizing your flower beds. This can be done using compost from the debris clean up or with chemicals. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to lay a thick layer of mulch around your flowers and trees to prevent weeds.

Clean Up Entrances

Entrances are the first thing your customers see so they need to look clean and attractive. Power washing goes a long way in making your entrances look fresh after winter. Make sure any flower beds around your entrances get extra attention by removing debris and mulching. Lastly, once the weather starts warming up, consider adding colorful potted plants for an extra touch.

Irrigation Inspection

Irrigation is important in order to keep your commercial property green and healthy throughout the year. After the winter season is a great time to check the system and ensure it is working properly. Heading into spring your irrigation needs to be in tip top shape in order to support the new life spring will bring to your landscaping.
