The Proper Use Of Fertilizer On Your Turf

Your turf is a battleground between grass, weeds, insects and lost nutrients every season. Feeding your lawn with the right blend of nutrients multiple times of year will help break up the fight and ensure you have a thriving turf. The nutrients fertilizer provides your lawn offers a slew of benefits that includes producing strong grass roots to controlling weed, disease and insect infestation.

How to apply.

It’s important to remember that too much or too little fertilizer can cause problems for your lawn. Applying it with a broadcast or rotary spreader over your lawn provides even coverage and avoidsFertilizer stripping as well as concentrated areas of the product that will cause your lawn to burn.

Types to apply.

There are several types of fertilizer on the market. At Bluegrass, we utilize Weed Man’s exclusive blend that contains naturally occurring ingredients such as nitrogen and potassium.

Slow -release – Our summer granular blend is a 65% slow-release nitrogen, the slowest release fertilizer, that feeds your turf through the root of the blades. The slow-release fertilizer is used during the warmer seasons to avoid burn up of your lawn by and giving your grass more uniform growth. These applications last 6-8 weeks, depending on watering frequencies, requiring less frequent applications as the nutrients are slowly released.

Fast-release – Our winter granular blend is a 46% fast release, immediately releasing nutrients into your lawn stimulating quick shoot growth. This keeps that your lawn looking thicker and greener longer! Potassium is a key ingredient in the fast release as it fights disease and drought during the harsh weather conditions winter brings us.

Timing.

Just as the quantities of fertilizer are imperative for a healthy lawn, so is the timing. At Bluegrass, our program includes four fertilization’s and two weed controls, broadleaf and a pre-emergent, starting in early spring and lasting through late fall or early winter.

Since our program uses a slow and fast release fertilizers, it is best suited for cool-season grasses. Because spring brings warmer temperatures its ideal to fertilize lightly to avoid burning your turf and heavier in the fall.

An average 6,000 square foot lawn absorbs enough carbon dioxide and produces enough clean oxygen to cover a family of four. Imagine if your turf area is larger than 6,000 sq. ft.! Keeping a healthy turf is valuable to our environment!commercial_lawn_care
